My First Slip

It was a Saturday in July, 2018. I thought I was ready to run the block party like a pro. I had the playlist queued, the food lined up, the schedule printed—everything down to the minute. But the PA system? Yeah, I forgot to test it. Turns out, the battery was dead. The whole thing went silent mid-set.

Now, I could've panicked. But nah—I grabbed the mic, started freestyling over the beat from my phone, and the crowd? They went wild. We turned that silence into a whole new kind of energy. That was my first slip—but it taught me that the best moments aren't always the ones you plan. They're the ones you make when the plan falls apart.

"The plan is just a map. The real ride is when you get lost and find something better."

That day, I learned more about community, timing, and the power of improvisation than any workshop could teach. And yeah, I still laugh about it. But that laugh? It's the sound of growth.

So here's to all the slips, the stumbles, the blown tubes and misfiled claims. That's where the magic lives. That's where we learn. That's where we grow.
